About Karen Verkerk

Biography

Karen is a civil-law notary specialising in the law of legal entities and company law, M&A and restructures, as well as advising large and medium-sized companies and non-profit institutions in particular with regard to their company structure and governance. She is President of our international network TELFA.

She is a member of the Combined Committee on Corporate Law, which advises various ministries and parliament on draft legislation on behalf of the Royal Dutch Notarial Association (KNB) and the Dutch Bar Association.

During the annual conference of the KNB, Karen was named Notary of the Year 2020.

Secondary activities

Beside TELFA, Karen is Chair of the board of the Dutch Foundation of professional education of young civil-law notaries, Chair of the supervisory board of the Theater Group Oostpool, and member of the national network Top Women (Boardroom empowerment) and Women in Energy. Karen has also been the Chair of the Board of Dirkzwager for many years.

Role of the Notary in Commercial and Corporate Transactions (The Netherlands)

This note explains the role and position of the Dutch civil law notary (notaris) in the Dutch legal system and abroad in the context of corporate and commercial transactions. It considers the role, responsibilities and obligations of the notary, when a notarial deed is required and the form of such notarial deeds. The note also addresses the legalisation requirements to use a Dutch notarial deed outside of the Netherlands.
