Biography
With a strong focus on healthcare and education institutions and other organisations in the Dutch semi-public sector, Petra advises on VAT and real estate transfer tax. She combines her tax expertise with a sharp eye for the social and financial reality organisations work in.
For Petra, tax is about more than rules and structures. Sound advice starts with understanding the organisation, its objectives and the challenges it faces. She developed that practical approach early in her career and it still shapes the way she advises.
In healthcare and education, Petra supports organisations on VAT exemptions, collaborative arrangements, group structures and property development. In these sectors VAT can be a substantial cost item. A carefully structured tax position therefore contributes to an organisation's public objectives and to putting available funds to targeted use. Board members, controllers and project managers bring Petra in when tax considerations weigh on a decision.
On complex projects Petra works closely with lawyers and civil-law notaries. Taking tax into account from the outset keeps risks in check, makes use of the opportunities and leads to solutions that last. The result is a solution that is correct for tax purposes, workable in practice and able to hold up over time. The best outcome is when tax stops being an obstacle and gives an organisation room to develop.
